Men’s haircuts in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
Abingdon isn’t short of barbershops. What it’s short of is salons that do men’s hair properly — taking the time to consult, cutting to face shape and hair type rather than to a generic style, and explaining how to style it at home so it still looks right two weeks in. We’re not competing with the walk-in barber on speed or price. We’re trying to give you a haircut that’s worth the time and money.
The cut you book depends on what you want. We do scissor work, clipper work, fades, line-ups, and longer styles — across all hair types including curly hair. If you’re not sure which to book, the four sub-pages below cover the main options, and the consultation at the start of any appointment sorts the rest.

The four ways to book.
Our four men’s services are differentiated by tool and length:
Scissor cut. For longer styles where the shape comes from layering and texture, not graduation. The right choice if you want length on top and the sides aren’t going short.
Clipper cut. Fades, line-ups, short graduated work and buzz cuts. The right choice if the look depends on short, even lengths or sharp lines.
Short men’s cut. A combination — short clipper work on the sides and back, scissor work on top. Probably the most common men’s booking, and the closest equivalent to a traditional crew cut if that’s what you’re after.
Long men’s cut. Longer hair, shoulder-length and beyond. Cut with scissors throughout, often with attention to face-framing and texture.
If you’re not sure, book the closest match — your stylist will recommend at consultation if a different service better suits. We don’t upgrade you to a more expensive booking without your agreement.
How is a men’s cut at Wisteria different from a barber?
Three things, mainly:
We consult. Every appointment starts with a proper conversation about what you want, what your hair does naturally, and what suits your face shape. This takes five minutes. It’s the difference between a haircut that works and one that doesn’t.
We teach you to style it. Most haircuts look great when they leave the salon and unrecognisable a week later because nobody showed you how to recreate it. We walk through products, technique, and what to do (and not do) at home. We stock JOICO in salon for men’s hair specifically.
We use scissors where it matters. Clippers are great for short sides; they’re not great for texture, movement, or face-framing on top. A lot of “barber” cuts come out blocky because the entire cut was done with one tool. We blend the two.
Colour and perms for men.
Two crossovers worth knowing about. If you’re after subtle grey blending, a full tint, or anything in between, men’s hair colour is a service we do most days — always preceded by a free consultation and a skin test. And for clients wanting texture or movement, we’re one of the few Oxfordshire salons still doing men’s perms properly — last year we averaged one perm a day across men and women combined. Both work well alongside a haircut at the same appointment if the timing allows.
How much does a men’s haircut cost?
Across Abingdon salons, men’s wash, cut and blow dry typically runs £25 to £60 depending on the salon, the stylist’s experience level, and how much work is involved. Barbershops in Abingdon sit cheaper — often £15 or thereabouts — and central Oxford salons tend to sit higher than Abingdon. Wisteria sits in the middle of the Abingdon salon range. Your appointment runs roughly 30 to 60 minutes depending on length and complexity, and includes a wash (it’s hard to cut hair properly when it isn’t freshly washed). For our current pricing, see the price list; your consultation gives you a firm figure before any scissors come out.
