Men’s curly haircuts — in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
If you’ve got curly hair, you’ll know the problem: most barbers treat it like straight hair that’s misbehaving. They clipper it short to make it manageable, or cut it so the curl pattern falls apart, and you leave with something that looked fine in the chair and nothing like it a week later. Curly hair needs a stylist who understands how curls actually behave — where the weight sits, how the pattern springs, how to cut so it keeps its shape as it grows. That’s a genuine specialism of ours, and it’s as true for men as it is for women.
Call or WhatsApp us on 01235 534705 if you’d like to talk it through before booking.
Why curly hair is cut differently.
Curly hair doesn’t behave like straight hair, and it can’t be cut like it. The same length looks completely different once the curl springs up, so a stylist has to cut for how it will actually sit — not how it looks pulled straight. Weight in the wrong place drags the curl down; weight removed badly makes it frizz or lose its shape. And every head of curls is different: tighter or looser, denser or finer, sometimes several patterns at once. Getting a men’s curly cut right means reading all of that and cutting to work with it, which comes from doing a lot of it rather than from a one-size-fits-all approach.
Whether you want to keep length and let the curl show, tidy it up while keeping the shape, or you’re not even sure how curly your hair really is, that’s what the consultation at the start of your appointment is for. If you’re after a different style, our men’s haircuts page covers scissor cuts, clipper work, fades and longer styles too.
We’ll show you how to style it.
This is the part most barbers skip, and it’s the part curly clients tell us made the difference. A good curly cut is only half the job — the other half is knowing what to do with it at home. We’ll show you how to work with your curls rather than fight them: the right products, how to apply them, how to diffuse, and the small techniques that keep your hair looking the way it did when you left. We stock two ranges of curly products in the salon, so you can take home exactly what works for your hair rather than guessing.
Plenty of clients tell us it’s the first time anyone’s actually shown them how to style their own hair. That’s the value we’re after — a cut that still looks right on day seven, not just day one.

Not sure if your hair is curly?
A lot of men have more texture than they realise — hair that reads as wavy or unruly is often curl that’s never been cut or styled to bring it out. If you’ve spent years having it cut short to keep it under control, you might not know what it can do. Bring what you’ve got to a consultation and we’ll tell you honestly what’s there and what’s possible. Sometimes the result is a genuine surprise.
Booking your appointment.
If it’s your first time with us, book a consultation or a cut and let us know you’ve got curly hair, so we can set aside the right amount of time. Bring reference pictures of what you’re after if you have them, and if a barber’s got it wrong before, tell us what happened — it helps us understand what you actually want. We’ll talk through what’s realistic for your hair and how to keep it looking right between visits before any cutting starts.
Online booking is at wisteriaavenue.co.uk/bookings, or call us Tuesday to Saturday on 01235 534705. WhatsApp the same number if it’s easier.
