Men's Hair Systems in Abingdon

For men experiencing hair loss or thinning, there are options including surgical, medication or increasingly commonly something called a ‘hair system’. A men’s hair replacement system is designed for men who are uncomfortable with a surgical solution like a hair transplant and want something that is less invasive, more affordable yet offers similar benefits to a permanent full head of hair. The hair system on offer is natural-looking that restores your hair. They are incredibly sophisticated, advanced and the best bit is that they are indistinguishable. Everyone will think it’s your natural hair!

Wisteria Avenue is a specialist men’s hair replacement system salon, catering to men that want honest and transparent advice in a private and non-intimidating setting with a Stylist that is understanding and recognises both the importance and vulnerability when opting for a hair system for the first time. We are here to work with you in your own time to ensure this is right for you.

Here’s everything you need to know about getting started with a men’s hair system, from what it is, to how it’s maintained, and the benefits it offers.

We offer new and existing clients a free no-obligation in-salon consultation to work through any questions, your options, what might work for you, Stylist recommendations and appointment availability. Call or send a WhatsApp message on 01235 534705.

What does a men's hair system look like?

Your men’s hair system will look just like your own hair! The difference between a full head of hair and a hair system is indistinguishable with the only difference being how you care for it and routinely appointments with your Hair System Expert. They’re very adaptable, it’s discreet, natural looking and versatile meaning that it can be cut to your particular style and blended with your natural hair.

What does a hair system appointment look like?

  • Step 1 – Preparation: Before any appointment is booked, we organise a no-obligation consultation. The reality is that not every person is suited to a hair system, nor is it every persons preference (much like hair transplants aren’t for everyone). We work through what it will look like, the cut you want to achieve, colour matching, suitability, ongoing maintenance and everything else in between. Assuming that you are happy, once we have scheduled an appointment, your Stylist prepares your scalp with a precise template, by measuring where your natural hairline sits. The area of application (on top) is clean-shaven.

Step 2 – Cleansing: The scalp is thoroughly cleansed with a 99% alcohol solution to remove oils or residue for a secure bond. These naturally build up in most people and can influence the hair system negatively so this step is quick and easy. Think of it as ‘pressing the reset button’.

Step 3 – Hair System Attachment: With the help of an adhesive that is light on your skin, this is applied to both the scalp and the base of the hair system, the hair system is applied to your scalp by pressing it gently but firmly carefully avoiding an uneven application. consistency is crucial.

Step 4 – Cut and Style: This might sound obvious, however the cuts are important for two reasons. Firstly only your natural hair will grow and secondly your hair system will need to be cut to your chosen style (ensuring it’s the right length moving forwards). Finally, the stylist blends the hair system with your natural hair, ensuring a consistent and well blended overall haircut. Not every Hair Stylist or Barber will be able to cut your hair, it requires a specialist technique which our Stylist’s are adept in using to get the most from your hair system and future haircuts.

Men's Hair Replacement System FAQ's

What is a men's hair system?

A men’s hair system is a non-surgical alternative for men who are struggling with alopecia, male pattern baldness or similar to look and feel their best with a full head of hair. The hair system is cost effective, indistinguishable and versatile that you won’t need to worry about looking great nor be concerned about losing your hair. The biggest upside is that the hair system doesn’t require medical intervention and you won’t need to experiment with medications such as Finasteride or Minoxidil. The hair system is tailored to both your colour and areas where you are struggling for hair growth. It’s light, durable and of the highest quality. It’s specifically designed for your hair and better still it’s very discreet meaning that it’ll remain undetectable whether in your workspace, gym, at home or socially. Here’s some further information on men’s hair systems.

For many men, surgery and medicinal options can offer unpredictable results leaving many feeling uncomfortable not to mention the significant cost of approaching surgery including the downtime and recovery phase. So rather than undergoing surgical procedures, men’s hair systems provide a pain-free, versatile option.

How will you know what colour I am?

There are two primary types of men’s hair replacement systems: custom-made and colour matching.

  • Custom-made hair systems: These are highly bespoke. For example if you have a different natural parting, a double crown, a smattering a grey in a specific spot or something unique, custom made solutions can be tailored with precision. Compared to colouring matching your hair which can take three days to turnaround, the custom-made option can take up to three months which is a downside.

  • Colour matching hair systems: These systems are available within roughly three days and offer an efficient solution for most clients. They’re excellent at colour matching your existing hair to blend your new hair system seamlessly and better still they are much more cost-effective and accessible.

Most of our clients find that they won’t need a custom made system with colour matching more than sufficient. That being said if you’re new to hair systems, we will work through every option with you to establish the best option for your style, lifestyle and budget.

Why choose a hair system over surgery?

It’s preference, however if you’re unsure whether to go for a hair transplant or a hair system, this blog may help. While surgery offers no guarantee, some clients prefer a ‘permanent’ solution to their hair loss, albeit at a much greater expense. Hair systems are non-surgical, offer massive benefits and an immediate solution that surgery doesn’t. There is also the obvious too; many people just don’t like surgery!

Here are some reasons why you might choose a hair system over a surgical route:

  1. Non-invasive: Surgery carries a major risk of it not going according to plan, scarring, the hair not taking and the obvious down-time. A hair system is much lower risk, cost-effective and offers an immediate turnaround.

  2. Immediate Results: Hair transplants can take months and there is a risk that it may not work. Hair systems work with immediate results without the cost, risk or downtime.

  3. Cost-effective: Hair systems start from about £350. Surgeries generally start from about £3,000.

  4. Lower commitment: Regular maintenance is required for a hair system, but it’s straightforward and can be done on a semi-flexible schedule. You won’t need to commit to years of follow-up appointments.

The process from consultation to application

If you haven’t had a hair system before, you aren’t alone. It can be a nerve-wracking experience. To help introduce what our service looks like, here’s a shortened breakdown of what the steps to a full head of hair look like:

  1. Initial consultation: This is arguably the most important step because whilst it qualifies whether you are ready for a hair system, it also disqualifies you. We sometimes get clients that enquire who wouldn’t benefit nor require our help. In some instances, a better haircut would help with some styling tips! So it’s important for different reasons. Assuming a hair system is right for you, this is a relaxed setting with no-obligation to commit to anything. We work through your hair history, how you feel, what you’d like to achieve, styles, colour matching, what the appointment would look like, haircuts and everything in-between!

  2. Colour matching: This actually ties-in with your initial consultation and is important insofar as when finding a hair system for you, salons generally will order something that is bespoke to you (they are rarely kept in stock given the sheer volume of options). We work through your preferences to establish best options against desired end result.

  3. Application Appointment: The appointment is much more relaxed than you might think. Our first floor is geared towards men’s hair system appointments with the space offering a controlled environment without the foot flow of the regular ground floor of the salon. The typical initial appointment takes roughly three hours and involves a secondary consultation, the application of the hair system, cutting your new style and reiterating the importance of regular ongoing maintenance. Once complete, you will be able to wear your hair with a renewed confidence with no downtime needed.

How long does a hair system last?

It depends. The question i ask clients is ‘how well will to follow our aftercare?’. Whilst the expected average is six months, some clients have been known to last up to nine months. The crucial component is regular visits to us when requested and maintenance at home. It’s generally when clients are unable or unwilling to follow aftercare plans when the hair system doesn’t last.

Maintenance sessions consist of a visit to the salon every 3-4 weeks. Longer gaps between appointments can lead to deterioration, requiring more time in the salon for adjustments.

What should I do to take care of my hair system?

Every client wants to maximise their investment (it’s a great way to look at this):

  • Limit shampoo’s: One item which surprises clients is that shampooing your hair system is… Bad. Conditioner is the new shampoo! Showering and conditioning is fine, however limit shampooing your hair system to once or twice a month at most. This avoids stripping the oils from the hair system whilst the conditioner helps achieve a natural looking softness and shine.
  • Gentle styling: Remember, there is a lifespan for your hair system so take care of it and go easy.
  • Regular appointments: Stick to 3-4 week maintenance sessions to keep your hair system looking its best.

If I am nervous, what does the service look like?

You might be surprised to hear but it will quickly feel like a ‘normal’ hair appointment. We have tailored the service with this in mind and we fully appreciate that for many having a hair system installed for the first time might feel uncomfortable or unnerving. Once in the chair, we walk through every step breaking down what we are doing and why into plain English to ensure you understand and are at ease with the process. This is important so that you can understand how your hair works, how it can be managed medium term and how you can help maxmise your investment in your hair system.

Just as importantly, we offer privacy, so no appointments on the main salon floor, a separate entrance to our first floor salon and an enclosed environment for you to explore any concerns, talk freely with understanding staff that ‘get it’.

it’s also worth noting that this can be a sensitive service and discretion is commonly requested. Our first floor is geared to supporting one-on-one appointments (unless requested otherwise) and we feel that this is far more progressive and productive than a typical appointment which may otherwise carry with it an interruption. It’s highly discreet without feeling like an intrusion.

What does a men's hair system cost?

They can vary. If you’re ready to explore a men’s hair system, our team is here to guide you every step of the way. The first step is to book a consultation with us and we discuss how we can help you achieve the look you’re after, with confidence and ease.

The cost of a men’s hair system is typically based upon the end result that you are hoping for such as hair length, hair colour and starting point. It can to a lesser extent vary based on factors such as location (salons closer to London will attract a higher price point given their increased overheads), the experience of the stylist, and the salon itself.

Most hair replacement systems are priced according to the client however the total cost including the upfront hair system, application, haircut and aftercare plan can be anything from from £350 – £650 if you seek a custom made option then costs will be closer to £650 with other alternatives being less.

Your Questions,

Men’s hair replacement  system consultation’s can be booked in many ways. It’s worth noting that these are highly bespoke appointments therefore there is emphasis on ensuring that the service and option is right for you.

Many clients prefer the convenience of online bookings, available at www.wisteriaavenue.co.uk/bookings. Booking online not only efficiently schedules your appointment but also allows for a skin test and comprehensive consultation.

Alternatively, a telephone call is another popular method. We’re available Tuesday to Saturday during our regular hours at 01235 534705. Email inquiries are also welcome at [email protected] (please provide a contact number in your email).

For WhatsApp users, simply create a contact with our landline number 01235 534705 to send a message regarding your booking inquiry to Wisteria Avenue.

Yes! Every appointment carries with it a consultation on the day and for new clients we advise an advance consultation to work through whether the choice of a hair replacement system is right for you.

The consultation is designed to identify your suitability. It works for many clients, whereas many clients much prefer a surgical option.

We also anticipate that this is a big step and the switch is a big decision and one we don’t take lightly. We are here to ensure we work through every aspect with you whilst ensuring there is a solution that works for you.

We don’t assume clients to be familiar with everything about the hair system! The consultation doesn’t stop following your first introduction, we expect that the appointment itself and ongoing support is one that will form a long-term relationship.

Questions are to be expected and likewise your Stylist will have questions for you.

In our experience, once clients have it once they tend to maintain it routinely, long-term. This is a great sign that the system will feel like your normal head of hair and whilst there are some necessary adaptations, it should feel like your own head of hair.

No, however there are ways to present as having highlighted or coloured hair.

We can supply you with a customer hair system to suit your needs. For example if you seek subtle highlighted pieces, we can create a custom hair system with just that. In addition, the extra cost to have one made bespoke is ironically marginally more cost effective than having colour done on your virgin hair!
