Hair Extensions Example
Client profile: The client pictured described their history of experiencing hair loss whilst also becoming frustrated by their lack of volume and length. The number of different shades in the hair from historical home hair colouring meant that finding a true colour was going to be challenging. By selecting two colours, this helped to present the illusion of highlighted hair whilst blending the extensions in with the natural hair to resemble two different shades in highlighted form.

What does it mean?
- Hair Extensions: The example extensions used are keratin bonds. The keratin bonds assist far more than any other application due to their ability to apply close to the root which is both discrete and softens the look immensely. Hair extension methods can seem overwhelming s if you you are unsure you are not alone, after all there are so many options! The best method of applying extensions can usually be attributed to lifestyle and budget. Some methods have more obvious upsides whereas others have more obvious downsides. In this example where we used keratin bonds which are famed for how discreet they are, they are much smaller than other methods. Given the client profile (box coloured hair and experiencing some hair loss), this option was favoured to help blend the extensions in much more seamlessly.
- Colours: A huge upside to all hair extension methods is that you likely won’t be short of colour options. This extends to most brands too so no-matter your eventual choice of brand, salon or application, the colour most likely won’t be the defining decision-making factor. In more recent times, hair extensions are much more sophisticated allowing for multiple colours in highlighting form, balayage form or just one colour.
- Lifespan: The warranty behind hair extensions is favourable. They vary from three months to six months on average, however if well looked after, there is no reason why they can’t last for longer. In our experience, clients can stretch extensions for as long as 12 months, however more commonly 9 months is the ideal range to aim for if well maintained.
- Follow-up Appointments: Most application types offer similar upkeep. The process for removal is usually the three month mark. Once removed, they are looked after within the salon and reattached (usually) the following day. Why? Hair typically grows at a rate of roughly half-an-inch every month so at the three month mark it’s likely that the attachments will become more visible, so removing and reapplying is sensible. The upside is that you don’t need to pay for the extensions twice!
Hair Extensions FAQ's
What are keratin bond hair extensions?
Keratin bonds are a type of hair extension. Like most methods of hair extension application, keratin bonds can achieve length, volume or both. The bonds attach to your existing virgin hair with a keratin substance and a specialist tool for precise placement.
How do keratin bond hair extensions work?
Keratin bonds attach to your existing virgin hair by utilising very small amounts of keratin to ‘bond’ your new hair with the existing. Once the keratin dries, the new hair is secured in place.

Why Hair Extensions?
For many hair extensions offer a quick and easy way to radically change your hair by introducing length and/or volume. They also allow you to experiment with colours with more experienced hair extension specialists able to blend extensions as highlights or balayage form. For others, hair loss, thinning or self confidence, hair extensions can introduce hair more strategically.
Can you colour hair extensions?
Yes and no. Should you colour hair extensions? No.
In most cases your Hair Stylist will likely refuse to colour or bleach your hair given the high likelihood that bleaches or hair colours will be both unpredictable and respond differently to your natural hair against the hair extensions themselves.
That being said, some hair extensions specialists are skilled enough to be able to create highlighting or balayage effects using hair extension pieces whilst also saving you time and money!
Will hair extensions damage my hair?
If you are responsible, care for your hair and manage your appointments then you will find the upkeep of your hair extensions will maintain your hair health and the upkeep is both reasonable and sufficient. In most cases clients are able to preserve the health of their hair with the support of their Stylist.
In some cases, leaving too much time between appointments, abusing your extensions, pulling them and generally not taking good care of them will have the capacity to cause damage. In our experience, whilst this does take some doing, you do need to consider how likely you are to not take good care of your hair.
Why are hair extensions so popular?
Hair extensions are fairly sophisticated in their quality, discreet application and ease of maintaining. For this reason, most people are adjust with relative ease when wearing hair extensions.
What is the difference between taped extensions, keratin bonds and nano rings?
The quality of hair is usually identical. The difference is how they attach to your existing virgin hair. Tape-in hair extensions are arguably slightly better for the hair longer term, however are less discreet. They can be more noticeable in certain scenarios, although if well looked after this typically isn’t so much of an issue. Nano rings are marginally more cost effective, however longer term use (over a number of years) is not ideal. Keratin bonds are the most popular of all as they fit somewhere in the middle in terms of maintaining health of hair, cost and fitting.
What do hair extensions cost?
The cost of hair extensions is dependent on a number of factors; namely what you hope to achieve, colour, type of application (nano rings or tape ins), stylist, location and salon. As a rule of thumb, a budget of £500+ to include the cost of extensions and application isn’t unreasonable.

Your Questions,
Answered.
Maintenance is generally considered better than hair colour. For some context, highlights are usually applied six times annually.
Depending on the method, 3-4 months is usually the average. Most methods allow you to recycle the hair, meaning the cost is usually the extensions being removed and subsequently refitted.
The extensions themselves bear most of the cost.
Hair extension salons generally don’t charge for the extensions, rather we pass on the direct cost. Our charges are for fitting only.
So long as they are taken care of, the introduction of hair extensions is fairly straightforward.
A lot will depend on getting used to longer and thicker hair.
Most hair extension salons won’t stock the extensions. For this reason a lot of stock is ordered in specifically for your appointment so expect a 48 hour turnaround.
Typically orders for extensions are non-refundable therefore we will ask for the cost of the extensions to be paid before any booking.
Whether you opt for tape ins, nano rings or something else, we will colour match your hair to ensure the right colour is ordered and applied to your hair.
