My Hair Is So Dry — What Can I Do?
If you’ve ever had dry or damaged hair, you’ll know how demoralising it can be. You can usually feel it instinctively — running your fingers through and knowing it needs some TLC. It’s a very common problem, and our Oxfordshire clients are no different.
Dry hair has many causes — over-bleaching, too much colouring, heat, environmental factors, lifestyle, even hormonal changes. If you want to understand the root of it first, our post on the causes of dry hair covers that side. This guide focuses on the practical part: what you can actually do about it.

What Can I Do About Dry Hair?
In-salon treatments
For dry or damaged hair, a professional treatment is the most effective starting point. Salon treatments work at a deeper level than most at-home products — restoring moisture and improving condition more noticeably. If your hair is dry through over-processing or lightening, a bond-building treatment like Olaplex is particularly worthwhile, as it works on the hair’s internal structure rather than just coating the surface. Our hair treatments page sets out the options, including more intensive in-salon repair if you want quicker results.
The right products at home
Between salon visits, the products you use make a real difference. Look for moisturising, nourishing shampoos and conditioners, and use a deep-conditioning mask regularly — concentrating it on the mid-lengths and ends, which are the oldest and driest part of your hair. A leave-in conditioner or serum adds an extra layer of moisture and protection. We’re always happy to recommend the right products for your hair at an appointment.
Habits that help
A few changes go a long way. Use a heat protectant before any hot tools, and give your hair heat-free days where you can. Wash with cooler water, as very hot water strips moisture. And don’t over-wash — it removes the natural oils that keep hair conditioned. If you suspect your routine is the culprit, our post on what’s making your hair dry is worth a read.
If your hair is genuinely damaged
There’s an honest distinction worth making: dry hair can be improved and rehydrated, but truly damaged hair — where the structure is compromised — can be improved and protected but not fully “repaired.” Treatments and good care will get it into much better condition, but sometimes the lasting fix is also patience and, eventually, cutting away the most damaged ends. Our post on whether you can fix damaged hair gives the realistic picture.
Dry hair is common and very manageable with the right approach — the combination of a good salon treatment, the right products and a few habit changes makes a genuine difference. Book a consultation and we’ll assess your hair honestly and recommend the best plan to get it back into healthy condition.
