If you are styling your hair using a hair dryer, the cold setting can play a significant role in both your overall look and the lifespan of your desired hair style. In Lehmann’s terms, while heat is effective in shaping and setting hair, cool air helps to lock that style in place. This is particularly useful if you are using a round brush, as it helps to hold the shape for longer.

To a lesser extent the cold setting is actually gentler to the hair and will have some protective benefits. High heat, particularly when applied close to your hair can weaken the hair’s structure over time, leading to dryness, frizz, and potential damage. Holding each curl in position with your round brush while blasting it with cool air can improve longevity, reducing the chance of curls dropping too quickly.
