DIY Fixes for Frizzy Hair in Abingdon
For many Oxfordshire clients, dealing with frizzy hair can feel like a losing battle. Whether the reason for frizz is humidity, damaged hair or natural texture, frizz can be difficult to manage. While some professional treatments can offer improved results, there are also some DIY options that you can try at home to keep your frizz in check. In this blog, weβll explore some effective home treatments that can help you achieve smoother, more controlled hair, along with a few expert tips from our Stylists.
If you’re looking for a more permanent solution, our frizz-free hair service page could help you.
DIY Fixes for Frizzy Hair
Moisture-Intensive Treatments
One of the primary causes of frizz is a lack of moisture in the hair. When your hair is dry, it tends to absorb moisture from the environment, which can cause the cuticle to swell and lead to frizz.
When you think frizz, immediately think ‘moisture’ (and lots of it!). If you’re at a loss and require something for immediate relief, moisture-intensive conditioning masks, leave in conditioners or similar can work well albeit they are far from permanent/long-term solutions. On the plus side typically moisture-intensive products tend to be more cost effective than most hair products so there is usually a saving to be had.
The 'Foil Hack'
One of the lesser-known but effective tricks for taming frizz is the ‘foil hack’. Itβs simple, quick, and delivers immediate, short-term results… All you need is kitchen foil!
- How to Do It: Take a small section of dry/frizzy hair and wrap it in using kitchen foil, starting at the root and working your way slowly to the ends. The aluminium works to reduce frizz.
This hack is perfect for those days when you need a quick fix, and itβs gentle enough to use regularly without damaging your hair.
Curl Cremes and Diffusers
If you’ve never used a diffuser before, it’s a great method for embracing your curls/wavy hair yet managing the frizz. They’re cheap and you won’t need to invest in any electrical appliances! Most universal diffusers attach onto the head of most hair dryers. Just remember if you are going to use a diffuser, our Stylist recommend curl cremes. They help keep your curls in check; we use Only Curls curl Creme and this works well.
Only Curls Curl Creme: One of our favourite products is the Only Curls Curl Creme. It helps keep your curls in check and reduces frizz. Apply it to damp hair, scrunching as you go, and let your curls dry naturally or with a diffuser.
Using a Diffuser: A diffuser attachment for your hairdryer is a must-have if you have curly or wavy hair. It helps to evenly distribute heat, thus reducing frizz and helping to define your curls. Use a low to medium heat/low to medium speed.
Cold Water Rinse
After washing your hair, give it a final rinse with cold water. This simple step can work wonders for reducing frizz:
- Why It Works: Cold water helps to close the hair cuticle, which in turn locks in moisture and smooths the hairβs surface. The result is shinier, less frizzy hair.
pHrizzy-o-therapy: Our Salon Solution for Frizz
While DIY remedies can offer short-term relief and are cost efficient, if you desire longer-term and more reliable results, we offer a smoothing treatment called pHrizzy-o-therapy, designed to tackle even the most stubborn frizz that works with your hairs existing curl pattern or wave.
- What Is pHrizzy-o-therapy?: This treatment works by restoring the hairβs natural pH balance, which is often disrupted by factors like heat styling, chemical treatments or simply your environment. pHrizzy-o-therapy deeply hydrates the hair, smooths the cuticle, and provides long-lasting frizz control. Itβs an excellent for clients who want to enjoy frizz-free hair that is far more versatile and adaptable to your environment.
Conclusion
DIY ‘fixes’ always have a place for daily maintenance. If you’re on a budget and want to manage your hair for a short timeframe, our tips can aid your management without leaving your home. Moisture is the key whatever you do; whether you seek help from our salon, products are a really sound investment alongside a diffuser.
Beyond product and styling, your options are dependent on your spend and the level of frizz. pHrizzy-o-therapy is a great second option that will all but eliminate your issues relatively cost effectively too.
