Wolf cuts in Abingdon
The wolf hair is an edgy haircut consisting of a cross between a shag and a mullet. Loved for its unique appearance, the choppy layers offer effortless volume, movement and texture and allow for amazing choices when it comes to styling. But what is a wolf cut, what should you ask for and will it suit you? In our daily blog, we ask our Stylists all things about wolf cuts and whether it’s the right choice for you.
If you are considering something different, our ladies haircut service page can help. Finally, if you’re new to the salon and not sure how to get the most value from your next appointment, need a consultation or would value a conversation before booking, call or send a WhatsApp message on 01235 534705

Wolf Cuts FAQ's
What is a wolf cut?
The wolf cut is the anti-establishment cut, known for its edginess and uniquely choppy layers that blends the shag and mullet. It’s characterised by heavy layering, messy styling and a bold shape with plenty of room for playful styling. The wolf cut style is effortlessly cool appearance and is very much a statement haircut and its not for the feint hearted! Here’s some wolf cut benefits!
What should I book if I want a wolf cut?
If you already have a wolf cut already or you’re looking for a wolf cut for the first time then your chosen salon will require a different appointment to support your booking. For your Stylist it’s all about booking the correct time to allow them to deliver your perfect haircut without feeling like they need to rush, cut corners or in haste mismanage your appointment unnecessarily. Most salons will offer wash and cut, wash cut and blow dry and restyle options. It’s advisable given the complexity of the haircut and the necessity for your Stylist to see it dry (they may cut more once dry) to avoid the wash and cut option if you are considering a wolf cut for the first time. A restyle is your preferred option if this is your first wolf cut and a wash, cut aand blow dry is sufficient if this is your routine wolf cut appointment.
When booking, there could also be some value in calling the salon before confirming your booking. Some Stylists won’t be able to do wolf cuts so there would be some value in touching base before you make your booking. After all, not all Stylists in any salon will be able to do everything. If you are booking, provide reference images to help your Stylist what you are aiming for. The wolf cut can vary in its appearance and it’s vital that your Stylist understand your ideal look, style and personality when it comes to your cut, maintenance and style.
Should I get a consultation before booking?
Whilst a pre-booking consultation might not be essential, so long as you are happy with booking a hair appointment with the proviso the commitment that you are happy to have a haircut (wolf cut or not), your Stylist will recognise that when considering a dramatic change, you need to understand what the wolf cut entails and this will form part of the in-salon discussion. During a consultation, a stylist can assess your hair type, face shape, your personal style, lifestyle, typical hair routine and everything in-between to ensure that the wolf cut meets your needs and just as importantly establish whether it can work for you (and if it doesn’t, what will).
Whilst we don’t offer advance consultations for solely haircuts, the consultation at the point of your appointment consider all avenues, in particular any concerns about the wolf cut, how it might look and whether it would suit you. Since the cut is heavily layered with choppy layers, it can change shape as it grows and this is a consideration to take on board when managing your future hair routine and styling preferences.
How do I know if a wolf cut would suit me?
In most cases of clients considering a haircut for the first time much of the consultation works to establish what shape would work and the type of cut that may serve you well. So whilst we aren’t able to define whether a wolf cut would work for you, critically a wolf cut can be adapted to suit different face shapes, hair types and personal styles yet this doesn’t automatically mean that wolf cuts appeal nor suit every person. The wolf cut is a niche style which applies choppy layers designed to add volume, especially around the crown, so it works well if you want something that makes a statement with fine or flat looking hair.
It’s too worth noting your face shape will play a big role in how a wolf cut will look. The layers on a wolf cut frame the face more than most so face shape matters. If you’re unsure, most competent Hair Stylists will point you in the right direction as they will for your styling needs.
Conclusion
The wolf cut isn’t for everyone and it certainly isn’t for the feint hearted! Yet the combination of a change, the edginess or a throwback style with a modern-day twist makes for a really eye-catching haircut that necessitates day-to-day styling. If you are considering a change, our in-salon consultations can serve to help you make the correct judgement about whether a wolf cut is the right choice for your look, styling needs and lifestyle.
If you are feeling lost in what could work best for you, leave it to us. Our consultations work through any question you might have, logistics and we too make recommendations based upon your lifestyle and hair type.
