How often should I get my hair done in Abingdon

The short answer is it can vary, but there is usually a definite answer dependent on what you typically have done. For example, a mens fade that’s short on top may grow out in four weeks, whereas a crew cut may last for either weeks. While there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer where ‘mens haircuts’ or ‘all hair colours’ must be done by a certain date, the timing of your next appointment will be somewhat predictable based upon the services you’ve received against ensuring that your hair remains healthy, looking good and on top form.

Frequency of hair appointment FAQ's
Why does it matter how often I get my hair done?
Getting your hair done regularly is a far less consistent message from your Stylist over the last few years. However not so long ago it was much more commonplace before lockdowns, financial climates taking their toll and the impact on families meant that hair appointments took less precedence. That being said, whilst there is still emphasis on getting your hair done frequency, getting it done at the right time can make all the difference. Not just to ensure it looks great, but to ensure that your hair maintains it’s appearance as best as possible.
We regularly see clients making bi-monthly visits. Their hair feels great, it looks as good as it can be and the work required to deliver that clients desired hair is far less than visiting far less. Whether it’s dry ends, visible regrowth, or a style that feels outdated or grown out, a consistent schedule helps to ensure your hair is always looking and feeling its best and reduces the need for drastic fixes. Part of maximising your visit to the salon is about asking the right questions to get the most from your appointments.
Ladies Haircuts: How often should they get done?
It can vary. Shorter styles typically require more maintenance to ensure the shape doesn’t grow out. For longer styles, it’s about both shape and split ends combined.
Best Case: Every 6 weeks – Shorter haircuts If you’re aiming for a sharp, polished look or have a shorter style that loses its shape quickly, getting a trim every six weeks is ideal. Regular trims help maintain volume, texture, and prevent the ends from becoming too dry or damaged. In the event you have an undercut, every four weeks is sufficient. We experience it whereby clients visit solely for an undercut. It’s a 15 minute appointment and we charge accordingly for the shorter time slot.
Worst Case: Every 3 months – If you have long hair or a low-maintenance style, you can stretch out your appointments to every three months. Hair typically grows roughly half an inch every four weeks. Hair usually splits quickly thereafter so the quicker that the split is addressed, the less straggly ends! Longer haircuts will require more maintenance but here’s some tips to extended the lifetime of your haircut.
Mens Haircuts: How often should they get done?
Men’s haircuts, like womens hair is dependent on the shape and length. As a rule of thumb, short haircuts require more maintenance whereas longer haircuts can usually stand the test of time slightly better. There The most popular haircut is arguably one with textured hair. This may support your decision as to when would be best.
Best Case: Every 4 weeks – For men with shorter haircuts such as fades fades or buzz cuts, getting a haircut every four weeks ensures your style stays crisp and fresh.
Worst Case: Every 2 months – If you’re growing your hair out or have a more relaxed style, waiting up to two months is fine. However, you may notice that your hair starts to lose its shape not long before then.
Balayage: How often should they get done?
Balayage is a popular low-maintenance hair colouring technique, making it a great choice for those who don’t want to be tied to frequent salon visits. If you aren’t sure if balayage or highlights will work best, this may help you.
Best Case: Every 3 months – If you prefer your balayage to look vibrant and fresh, coming in every three months helps maintain the contrast and brightness of the colour, especially if you like a higher contrast look.
Worst Case: Every 6 months – One of the advantages of balayage is that it grows out more naturally, so you can stretch your appointments to every six months if needed. If you’re happy with a more lived-in, subtle look. This makes it a great option for those with busy lifestyles or if you need your budget to stretch slightly further!
Highlights: How often should they get done?
If you love highlights, regular maintenance is key to keeping your colour vibrant without too much regrowth showing.
Best Case: Every 2 months – For those who prefer a well maintained head of highlights, getting highlights done every two months is ideal. We usually advocate for clients alternating between full-head and half-head highlights in rotation. This allows you to maintain your colour whilst ensuring the health of hair isn’t compromised.
Worst Case: Every 3 months – Given hair grows roughly half an inch every four weeks, after three months the regrowth will represent about 1.5 inches from the root. If you’re happy with a slightly grown out root, three months between appointments is still workable and can still offer great results. If you aren’t sold on highlights or just aren’t sure what the differences are between highlights and balayage, check out this blog post.
Tints: How often should they get done?
For clients looking to cover greys or to maintain their desired all over colour, it’s important to keep on top of your roots to maintain a polished and consistent look.
Best Case: Every 4 weeks – If your roots show quickly or you want to maintain a consistent colour, a monthly visit is recommended to touch up your roots. Most appointments will be tint regrowths interspersed with full head tints (your Stylist will generally pull the colour through for the last few minutes to refresh the ends).
Worst Case: Every 6 weeks – Waiting up to six weeks is fine if your regrowth isn’t too noticeable. However, if you wait too long, the regrowth may become more prominent, especially if your hair is a lighter shade or you’ve gone significantly darker or lighter than your natural colour.
Bleaching: How often should they get done?
There is a greater emphasis than tints to stay on top of your colour. Particularly for naturally darker hair, it can create logistical issues if it grows out too much. Just like tints, all-over bleaching requires regular maintenance to keep the colour even and avoid noticeable roots. If you want to learn more about all over bleaching, here are some helpful FAQ’s.
Best Case: Every 4 weeks – Regular touch-ups every four weeks will help you maintain a clean colour.
Worst Case: Every 6 weeks – While waiting longer between appointments is possible, it can lead to uneven colour and more visible root growth, especially with such a high-contrast style.
Perms: How often should they get done?
Perms can last anywhere from two to six months, depending on your hair type, the length of your hair, and how well you maintain your curls. As a rule of thumb, shorter styles will grow out faster as the perm will likely coincide with more regular haircuts.
Best Case: Every 2 months – If your hair is short and your receive regular cuts, the perm will need redoing after a couple of months. If you’re wondering why, most clients go for a ‘fashion perm’ which translates as a beach wave.

- Best Case: Every 3 months – To maintain the full benefits of these treatments, coming in every three months for a refresh is ideal.
