What exactly is a restyle?

A restyle can be summarised a a number of things. In most peoples eyes a restyle represents a significant change to alter your haircut whether that be its shape, texture, or length. To a hairdressers the time difference to cut hair is what qualifies as a restyle. In many instances those extra 15-30 minutes required are based upon the necessity to ‘put back in’ lost shape. In the vast majority of cases restyles reflect clients that aren’t cutting hair regularly and therefore once the shape is lost the cut can just take longer. Unlike a regular haircut, which simply maintains your existing look, a restyle is in effect starting from scratch (whereas regular haircuts enable your Stylist to follow the previous haircut).

Whether you’re bored of your current haircut, want to try something more vibrant or you need a style that better suits your hair type, your Stylist should be able to help you work with your ideas and find something that works for you.

Is a restyle right for you?

Not every client needs a restyle. If you think you might, here are some considerations to take on board:

Are you bored of your current look?: If you’ve been stuck with the same hairstyle for years or your haircut isn’t doing enough for you, a restyle can give you something different that you’ve been craving. As a further option if you want something more creative, a creative haircut could also help.
When was your last haircut?: If your haircut was more than six months ago, you may need a restyle anyway (even if you want to stick to your normal haircut). Once the style has grown out, your Stylist will be cutting it back in. Generally this can take longer.
Does your cut lack something?: A restyle can add layers, volume, or texture, creating a more dynamic look.
What is your daily routine?: Do you have time to spend time each morning styling or do you require something low maintenance? Certain styles require more time to style. This is an important consideration.
You’re entering a new phase in life: Whether it’s a career change, a personal milestone, or a new life chapter, a restyle can reflect that transition.

What does a restyle consultation look like?

Whether you are booking for a restyle or not, the appointment will consist or a thorough consultation to explore your what could work for you. This is a crucial step for any important and whether the appointment takes place with us or elsewhere, there are some important points your Stylist will likely cover with you. During the consultation, you can expect your stylist to ask questions about:

Your hair history: When was your appointment (and what was it?), your typical appointment and timeframe, what those appointments looked like, concerns and health of hair.
What you like and dislike about your current style: This helps your stylist narrow down what they have to work with.
Your daily routine and lifestyle: Your lifestyle matters. For example if you’re a busy professional or a stay-at-home mum, the reference may influence your choice. Your stylist will factor in how much time you can realistically spend on styling and upkeep.
Your preferences: Some people like more volume, others may suffer from frizziness. Certain hair types benefit from different things so the consultation is your chance to discuss exactly what you’re hoping to achieve.
