Matching colour to your style and upkeep
Vivid shades vary a lot in how much maintenance they need, and that’s worth being realistic about. Some fade faster than others, and topping up vivid colour is an ongoing commitment. During the consultation we’ll be straight with you about how a given shade will wear, so you can pick one that fits your lifestyle rather than one that becomes a chore. If low upkeep matters to you, we’ll steer you accordingly.
The honest bit: it depends on pre-lightening
This is the part that catches people out. Vivid semi-permanent shades are translucent — they show up properly only on hair that’s been lifted light enough underneath. A blue or purple applied over hair that hasn’t been pre-lightened to a pale, clean base simply won’t look like the picture. So for most vivid results, your hair is first pre-lightened — often to the lightest shade possible — then toned for an even canvas, dried, and only then is the colour applied and left to process. A few shades are more forgiving, but as a rule, the pre-lightening is the result. It’s also why these appointments take time — this is not a quick turnaround, and rushing it shows.
How it differs from permanent colour
Permanent colour is mixed and formulated precisely to your hair. Vivid semi-permanents are different — they’re deposit-only, going straight onto the hair without a developer, so the skill sits in the preparation and the application rather than the mix.
