Hair Transplants and Men's Hair Systems FAQ's
Understanding hair transplants
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure where hair follicles from one area of the scalp are moved to balding areas. This option is often chosen by men looking for a solution that grows naturally over time. Here are some of the main considerations.
Pros:
- Real hair: Over several months, the transplanted hair grows and looks natural.
- Low Maintenance: No frequent replacements or adhesives; the hair is your own.
Cons:
- Recovery: Post surgery, the recovery and subsequent regrowth can take longer than anticipated. Certain recoveries/growth can take months leaving an imbalanced haircut.
- Cost: Hair transplants are not cheap. There is significant outlay required usually costing upwards of Β£3,000 plus.
- Risk: Surgery carries its own risks. Whether the surgery is effective is the biggest question mark.
Understanding men's hair systems
A menβs hair system is a non-surgical offering that deliver immediate results with those results designed to replicate your hair types, consistency, colour, cut and style pre losing your hair. The option of a hair system is growing in its demand with more clients seeking this solution above surgical given the lower risk, financial outlay and most importantly indistinguishable end result.
Pros:
- Instant: Unlike transplants, which take months to see results, hair systems offer a full head of hair in just one appointment. This is how long it takes and how easy it is to apply.
- Cost: They’re a lot cheaper. Surgery typically costs in excess of Β£3,000, whereas men’s hair replacement systems start from circa Β£350. For more on how much a hair system costs, this blog can help.
- Reliable: Hair systems are of good quality and are designed to withstand most lifestyles no matter how flexible.
- Low impact: There’s no recovery period and limited risk.
Cons:
- Maintenance: The hair system requires in-salon maintenance every month for a haircut and to ensure the system is in good order.
- Replacement: While systems are durable, they will eventually need replacement. However, with proper care, systems typically last on average six months.
Comparing Costs: Hair Transplants Vs. Hair Systems
Hair transplants in the UK are charged on average upwards of Β£3,000. There are overseas offering however many clients opt for the comfort of familiarity of a UK specialist. The balance is that this is a one-time cost however despite the outlay it often doesn’t come with any guarantee of the results.
Comparatively men’s hair replacement systems have a lower initial investment of around Β£350 – Β£500 with some ongoing maintenance. This cost-effective approach makes hair systems accessible to a wider audience with some flexibility to alter your hair and appearance down the line.
What is the durability and maintenance like?
On the whole, both aren’t bad. Hair transplants require minimal upkeep once theyβve healed although the initial few months does require a lot of care and attention (no pain, no gain!). Hair systems are designed to be cared for and styled as needed, although care and attention is required to better ensure longevity. Systems made from Remy hair which is typically highly durable, standing up to most lifestyles with some ease.Β
If you want to maintain your hair system, treat it as an investment. The maintenance is part in-salon and part at-home. Ensuring you care for your hair at home by shampooing once or twice monthly and otherwise conditioning when showering is paramount. Equally, visiting your hair system chosen salon once every 3-4 weeks is just as important. Appointments are quick, however those regular touch ups will ensure that your hair system lasts for at least six months. If you’re not sure whether you need to remove a men’s hair system, check out this blog.
What other factors are there to consider?
Truthfully there isn’t too much else in terms of the practicalities of both. You may want to consider your life post hair transplant given the recovery phase, however assuming successful surgery it can be an attractive option.
One may also consider the psychological aspect of both however. It can be an intimidating prospect talking about your hair and ensuring a solution that works for you is very important. both options in their own rights can work however both offer outstanding benefits at different price points. Whilst hair transplants may appeal to some, they may not appeal to others. The same can be said for men’s hair systems.
Are hair systems better?
In our experience, menβs hair systems are popular. Most clients (it represents about 99% of clients) return to maintain their new hair which is a great advert. They are much more cost-effective, offer immediate results and they really don’t ‘get in the way’ of people’s lifestyles which is a huge plus.
It’s difficult to directly assess whether hair transplants are better or worse. They most definitely serve a purpose however given our conversations with clients, the influence of psychology and reluctance for surgery and in lesser cases budget do play a role in each. It would be safe to assume that for many, surgery work and for others, hair systems do offer a better alternative.
