Hijab-friendly haircuts — in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
For anyone who wears the hijab, something as routine as a haircut can be harder than it should be. Removing a head covering asks for privacy and modesty that most salons — open-plan, unisex, full of mirrors and footfall — simply aren’t set up to offer. We are. We have a private room on our first floor, away from the main salon, where your haircut happens in a space closed off from other clients, always with a female stylist. It means you can have your hair cut properly, by someone experienced, without compromising on modesty. For South Asian / Indian haircuts, here’s more information.
Call or WhatsApp us on 01235 534705 to talk it through, or mention it when you book — a little notice lets us set everything up for you.
What makes the appointment hijab-friendly.
The haircut itself is no different from any other — a proper consultation, an experienced stylist, the cut you actually want. What’s different is the setting. Your cut takes place in our first-floor room, a separate space away from the main ground-floor salon, closed off so that no one beyond you and your stylist can see you without your hijab. You’ll always be with a female stylist. And there’s no rush: the space is quiet, unhurried, and yours for the appointment.
We’ll be honest about one practical thing, because we’d rather you know in advance than be surprised on the day: our washing area is on the ground floor, not upstairs. When your hair needs washing, we use privacy barriers to screen the area completely, so your modesty is protected — but it does mean a short, screened trip downstairs rather than everything happening in one room. Plenty of clients are entirely comfortable with this once they know how we handle it; if you’d like to talk through exactly how it works before booking, just ask. It’s the kind of detail we’re always happy to walk you through.
Just let us know when you book.
This is the one thing that makes everything else possible. Our first-floor room is also used for other private appointments, so it isn’t always free — and if there are male stylists or clients in on a given day, we’ll want to plan around that. So when you book, simply tell us you’d like a hijab-friendly appointment. That’s all it takes for us to make sure the private room is available, a female stylist is assigned, and everything is set up before you arrive.
The easiest ways: send a WhatsApp or message on 01235 534705 with your name, what you’d like to book and your availability; call us Tuesday to Saturday; or book online at wisteriaavenue.co.uk/bookings and add a note in the comments. However you do it, that one line — “I’d like a hijab-friendly appointment” — means we can look after you properly.

Ready for your Hijab-friendly haircut?
No consultation needed — pick a time online and you're booked in under a minute.
Experienced stylists, whatever your hair.
A private space is only half of it — the haircut still has to be right. Our stylists are experienced across every hair type and texture, so whatever your hair is like and whatever look you’re after, you’re in capable hands. Bring reference pictures if you have them; they help enormously. The consultation at the start of your appointment is where we talk through what you want, what will suit you, and how to keep it looking right between visits — before any cutting begins.
Haircuts are what most clients come to us for, but they’re not all we can do privately. If you’d like colour or another service as a hijab-friendly appointment, that’s absolutely possible too — just mention it when you book so we can allow the right time and set the room up accordingly.
Booking your appointment.
If it’s your first time with us, book a consultation or a cut and let us know you’d like a hijab-friendly appointment. We’ll talk through what’s realistic for your hair, what will suit you, and how everything works on the day — so you arrive knowing exactly what to expect. If you’ve had difficult salon experiences before, tell us; it helps us make sure yours is a good one.
Online booking is at wisteriaavenue.co.uk/bookings (add a note in the comments), or call us Tuesday to Saturday on 01235 534705. WhatsApp the same number if it’s easier.
