It’s one of our favourite things to do: a style built for you, on the day it matters, that photographs beautifully and holds from the first photo to the last dance. Hair up means far more than a single bun. Depending on your hair and the look you’re after, that might be a classic updo, a soft half-up half-down, romantic curls and waves, braided and plaited styles, sleek and structured looks, vintage sets, or something loose and undone with a few curls left out to frame the face. Bring us a picture of what’s caught your eye and we’ll work out how to get there — or as close to it as your hair will genuinely allow — and make it last the occasion.
The two we’re asked for most are wedding hair and prom hair, and each has its own things to think about — timing, the rest of the party, photographs, how long you need it to hold. But the same care goes into any occasion, whether it’s a milestone birthday, a race day, a ball, or simply a night you want to feel wonderful.
In salon, always.
One thing to know up front: we do all occasion hair here in the salon — we don’t travel to venues, hotels or homes on the morning of an event. That’s a deliberate choice, and it’s about doing the job properly. In the salon we have everything to hand — the full kit, the products, good mirrors and lighting, and a calm, unhurried space — rather than working out of a bag in a crowded hotel room against the clock. It means we can give you our full attention and our best work. If you specifically need someone to come to your venue, we’re honestly not the right fit — but if you’re happy to come to us, you’ll get a better result for it.
What it costs, and how long it takes — honestly.
Here’s the honest part, because occasion hair is where salons are often vague and it causes real frustration. There’s no single fixed price for hair up, because the appointments genuinely vary enormously. A simple style on cooperative hair might take thirty minutes; an intricate look on long, thick, or resistant hair can take up to three hours. The average sits at around an hour.
What drives the difference is your hair and the style: length, thickness and density, texture, condition, how well the hair holds a shape and how much it resists, and the complexity of what you’re asking for all change how long it takes — and the time is what the cost is based on. None of this is a problem; it just means we can’t put a single number on a page and have it be true for everyone. What we can do is look at your hair, understand the style you want, and give you a clear, honest idea of both the time and the cost before you commit — so there are no surprises on the day.

The best occasion hair starts with a proper conversation. Bring reference pictures of the looks you love — they tell us far more than words can — and we’ll be honest with you about what will genuinely work for your hair type and, just as importantly, what will still look good hours later when it matters. Some styles that look effortless in a photo need a particular hair type or a lot of preparation to hold; part of our job is steering you toward the version that will actually last your event rather than falling before the first dance.
