Tape-In Hair Extensions in Abingdon

At Wisteria Avenue, our hair extensions salon caters for tape-in extensions. Our skilled stylists in Abingdon offer a range of tape-in options — adding length, volume, or both — with real sensitivity to your existing hair. Whether you’re after fuller, longer locks for everyday wear or a one-off transformation for a special occasion, our top-quality taped extensions create a seamless, natural-looking result.

Please note: a consultation is required for all hair extensions. Each box contains 20 pieces, and our prices include application.

What are taped hair extensions?

Tape-in extensions involve applying wefts of hair — typically sandwiched between two adhesive tapes — to your natural hair. The method is known for its quick application, its gentleness on the hair, and its easy removal. A few of the things clients like most:

How do taped hair extensions work?

Extensions come in packs of 20 pieces, and your hair type and goals determine how many you’ll need. Whether you’re after length, volume, a balayage effect, or a mix, that dictates the number of pieces — some clients use 20 (one box), while others may need as many as 60 (three boxes).

Because they’re taped, they’re less damaging than some traditional methods, and they can be washed and treated like your natural hair. We would, however, advise getting a second opinion before colouring or bleaching your extensions. Our extensions can also be reused — with a lifespan that depends on your lifestyle and the products you use — and we reapply and prepare them in salon.

Why taped hair extensions?

We use LoxBox luxury taped weft extensions, which we rate largely for the method of application and the versatility it offers. Fine, premium hair is bonded into a soft, flat, flexible 1.5″ self-adhesive strip. Your stylist simply positions your natural hair between two pieces of tape and presses them together for a secure, comfortable fit — no tools or heat required. The extensions lie flat for a seamless finish, and are quickly and easily removed using a specially formulated remover spray.

There is some upkeep involved, but the extensions are comfortable, long-lasting and of the highest quality. If you’d like to learn more, call us.

Why are taped hair extensions so popular?

Tape-ins are popular for their ease of application, natural look and versatility. They’re a quicker, less invasive option than some other methods, which appeals to anyone after a transformation without the fuss.

If you’re searching for hair extension salons near you, you’ll find there aren’t many — most providers are self-employed or work as mobile freelancers. Wisteria Avenue is a salon-based option for taped hair extensions.

What is the difference between taped extensions and pre-bonded?

Tape-ins use adhesive tapes to secure wefts to your natural hair, whereas pre-bonded extensions use individual strands with a pre-applied bond, fused to the hair using heat. Tape-ins are typically quicker to apply and remove; pre-bonded can take longer, and while they may last longer, the consensus among professionals is that they can work out more costly over time.

What do taped extensions do to your hair?

They add length and volume. The application is less damaging than some other methods, as it doesn’t involve heat or chemicals — but proper care and maintenance are essential to avoid tangling and breakage.

What are the downsides to taped hair extensions?

If they’re not applied correctly, tape-ins can slip or become visible, and they can require more frequent maintenance and adjustment than some methods. As a rule, expect them to be moved up and reapplied roughly every 8–12 weeks (using the same wefts) — though, well looked after, the wefts themselves have been known to last up to 12 months.

What do taped hair extensions cost?

Cost varies with salon location, the quality of the hair, and your stylist’s experience. Taped extensions are actually hard to find locally in Abingdon; at Wisteria Avenue we charge from £250+, whereas in central Oxford prices typically run from £400 to £1,000. For an accurate, personalised quote, we’d recommend a consultation based on your specific hair and goals.

Your Questions, Answered

Frequently asked.

I've never had extensions before — what's the maintenance like?+

Generally easier than colour. For context, highlights are typically done around six times a year; extensions, depending on the method, average every 3–4 months. Most methods let you recycle the hair, so the ongoing cost is usually just removal and refitting.

Are hair extensions expensive?+

The extensions themselves are most of the cost. We don't mark those up — we pass on the direct cost — and our charge is for the fitting.

Do I need to do anything differently if I have extensions?+

Not really, as long as you take care of them. Mostly it's a case of getting used to longer, thicker hair.

Do you take a deposit when I book?+

Most salons don't keep extensions in stock, so they're ordered in specifically for you — expect roughly a 48-hour turnaround. As those orders are typically non-refundable, we ask for the cost of the extensions up front, before booking.

Will I get to choose the colour?+

Yes — whether it's tape-ins, nano rings or another method, we colour-match to your hair so the right colour is ordered and applied.
