Welcome. You’ve landed here because the vacancies page doesn’t show a role that fits — but you’d still like to work at Wisteria Avenue. We’re glad you did.
We don’t recruit constantly. We hire when there’s genuine room for someone good, which means at any given moment our listings might show one role, two roles, or none at all. The right person, though, is rarely matched perfectly to a job posting. If you think you’d be a strong fit here, we’d rather hear from you and figure out whether we can make something work than have you walk past.
So tell us about yourself. We read every approach.
What we’re generally looking for
- Strong hairdressing skill, at whatever stage of your career you’re at. Apprentice through senior — we’ve hired across the range. Skill matters more than the level you’re currently sitting at.
- Real care for the people in your chair. Technical ability is the baseline. Communication, consistency, and the ability to make a client feel looked after — that’s what makes a great stylist.
- Reliable, honest, easy to work with. The team is small. Personality fit matters more here than it would in a bigger salon.
- Settled or settling. We’re not a stepping-stone salon. We invest time in people who plan to stay for a while.
What to send us
A short note about who you are, where you’ve worked, and what you’re hoping to find in your next role. A CV is helpful but not essential at this stage. We’d rather have a paragraph that gives us a sense of you than a polished CV with no context.
Include what hours you’d ideally work, where you’re based, and any constraints that matter — childcare, commute, current notice period, anything that affects how a role would actually fit your life. The more we know up front, the more useful our reply can be.
What happens next
We reply to every approach.
If you’re a strong potential fit and we have something coming up, we’ll suggest a coffee at the salon to talk it through properly. If we don’t have anything right now but could imagine bringing you on later, we’ll say so — and stay in touch. If we genuinely can’t see a fit, we’ll be honest about that too.
The one thing you won’t get is no reply.

I opened Wisteria Avenue in 2018 because I believed a salon could be run differently — busy enough to keep your column full, small enough that nobody gets lost in politics. Seven years, two floors and 650-odd five-star reviews later, that's still the whole idea.
