Colour gone wrong is miserable. A box dye that turned out nothing like the packet, a service elsewhere that left you with banding, brassiness or patches, a balayage that came out stripy, or years of build-up that’s gone flat and dark — if you’re sitting with hair you can’t stand to look at, the first thing to know is that it’s almost always fixable. The second is that fixing it properly is a craft of its own.
Colour correction is some of the most involved work we do at Wisteria Avenue, and some of the most satisfying. Clients come to us from across Oxfordshire — often after a disaster somewhere else — and leave with hair they recognise again.
What counts as a colour correction?
More than you might think. We regularly correct: home colour that’s gone too dark or patchy; brassiness and unwanted yellow or orange tones; banding, where old and new colour sit in visible stripes; bleach jobs that have lifted unevenly or damaged the hair; balayage and highlights that came out harsher than promised; colour build-up from years of repeated tinting; and green tones from chlorine or well-meaning ash toners. If your colour doesn’t look the way it should — whoever did it, including you — it belongs in this category.

What the appointment involves.
Corrections take time — often several hours, because the work is layered: removing or neutralising what shouldn’t be there, rebalancing the base, and then creating the colour you actually wanted, usually finished with a toner and a plan for keeping it that way. You’ll leave knowing exactly how to look after it at home, and when we’d want to see you again.
The honest bit.
Some corrections can’t — and shouldn’t — be done in one sitting. If your hair’s condition means that pushing to the target shade in a single appointment would wreck it, we’ll tell you, and we’ll stage the work across visits so your hair survives the journey. Occasionally we’ll advise waiting altogether. We’d rather lose an appointment than your trust — or your hair.
