Korean Perms in our Abingdon salon
Korean perms are quickly becoming one of our most popular choices for perm with clients visiting our Abingdon hairdressers, particularly for those with very straight hair looking for soft movement and the addition of texture. Most clients that visit have never had a perm and aren’t sure whether they are right for them and whether they’re suitable for your hair type. In this blog about Korean perms, we work through what a Korean perm is, how it can help your hair and what they look like.
For more information about Korean perms at your next hair appointment, visit our perms service page. Finally, if you’re new to the salon and not sure how to get the most value from your next appointment, need a consultation or would value a conversation before booking, call or send a WhatsApp message on 01235 534705.
Korean Perm FAQ's
How does a Korean perm work?
A Korean perm, also known as a K perm, can be achieved in a few ways however in most cases your Stylist will embrace a combination of bigger perm rods, heat, perm solution and tactful placement of rods to create softer, natural looking curls/waves. More traditional perming methods like beach waves, spiral perms and body waves Unlike older perming methods that rely heavily on tighter curls and smaller rods, the Korean perm focuses its attention on creating looser waves for a more natural looking textured style.
It’s too worth noting that before your appointment commences, your stylist will schedule an advance perm consultation to assess your hair condition and anticipated end result committing to any perm service. It’s during this same consultation your Stylist will also be able to offer styling advice, suggestions and recommendations around which perm result might work best for you.
What hair types are best for a Korean perm?
Korean perms generally work on any and every hair type however they do generally best work on fine to medium hair best. It’s these hair types which best respond to Korean perms given the added texture and soft wave can transform fine or limp hair which can be very limiting when trying to style to hair which doesn’t require much work.
Clients with thicker hair can still benefit though it is primarily clients with fine to medium hair which most benefits from the addition of a looser and softer wave.
How long does a Korean perm appointment take?
Korean perm appointments like most perm appointments are largely dictated by the length, thickness of hair and the type of curl required. From start to finish at our Abingdon hairdressers, a Korean perm typically lasts between two and three hours.
The time of the appointment on the day consists of a consultation, preparation, washing, wrapping, processing, neutralising, removing rods, rinsing, and styling (and potentially cutting).
Can a Korean perm give curls and volume?
Korean perms can provide both curls and volume and it’s one of the biggest advantages of the Korean perm. It’s worth mentioning that in isolation a Korean perm is designed to be much looser and more of a wave than a curl, however your Stylist at ourAbingdon hairdressers can adopt a different curl type of patten in order to produce different results.
No two Korean perms look the same, which is why the consultation stage is so important. For at-home styling and in-salon, to enhance your curls we use Only Curls (here’s £5 off your next curly hair order!).
How much does a Korean perm cost?
Perms are much more straightforward for a salon to price for and a Korean perm is no different. Costs typically depend on the salon, hair length, thickness and to a lesser extent the complexity of the hair. In most cases and our Abingdon hair salon is no different, you can expect the cost to reflect the time and skill.
How should you style your hair after a Korean perm?
One of the key benefits of a Korean perm being that it’s actually surprisingly difficult to get it wrong! Once the hair dries, the waves settle into a softer overall shape meaning that any products will only further enhance your natural wave. Many clients at our Abingdon hairdressers find they only need a small amount of mousse or lightweight curl cream to enhance their wavy texture.
In most cases a small application of product on damp hair and letting it air dry can be beneficial. Moreover for a cleaner blow-dried finish, you can achieve a smoother look whilst still being able to embrace a soft looking wave.
Are Korean Perms Suitable for Shorter Fringes or Curtain Bangs?
Korean perms can be suitable for shorter bangs or fringes, but how short matters. Most Korean perms offer a soft ‘C’ shaped curl that gentle curves away from the forehead and towards the ear.
At our Abingdon hair salon, stylists may recommend a combination of spot-perming (perming only certain sections) and layered cutting to create the shape you want. This is especially popular with clients looking for a soft, romantic finish around the face.
Conclusion
Korean perms represent a soft, natural, and ease of styling alternative from more traditional perms that predominantly suit fine and medium hair types. If you’re thinking about embracing long-lasting texture, speaking to experienced stylists at our Abingdon hairdressers is the best place to start.
